Street Lighting
How to report lighting columns that are not working, dayburners, or those concealed within foliage.
If you wish to report a lighting column that is not working, a dayburner, or a lantern obscured by foliage you can report it to Warrington Borough Council either by telephoning the Contact Centre on 01925 443322 or alternatively online via their website at Report a problem with a street light or lit bollard | warrington.gov.uk.
When a street light develops a fault the WBC team will aim to inspect and fix the problem within five working days. If the problem is caused by the electrical supply then it may be necessary to contact the utility company to assist with the repair. Depending on the nature of the issue, it can take some time to repair, eg cable fault.
Most Warrington Borough Council adopted lighting columns have a number on a yellow background which identifies the location of the light, so please make a note of it if possible. This will help the Council to locate the specific column.
To report a faulty light to Warrington Borough Council you will need to provide:
- The nature of the problem, i.e. light out, light flickering, damaged pole, wires exposed
- The street/road name
- The individual street light number, if you know it (usually printed on a yellow sticker on the pole)
- As much information as possible about the location of the light
- You can also upload images if you wish
Emergencies
A street light fault is classed as an emergency if the light’s wires are exposed, if the shade is broken or hanging off or if the problem is caused by a road traffic accident. If you think the problem is an emergency, please call Contact Warrington Borough Council on 01925 443322 and their team will aim to inspect the light within two hours.
