Landscaping and Queries
The Town Council receives many requests during a year for assistance with landscaping, and the clearing of footpaths.
Any work undertaken by our staff needs to be done with the permission of the landowner.
To enable the team to carry out their work competently, our Maintenance Team Operatives are trained in the use of handheld landscaping equipment such as brushcutters and hedgetrimmers.
There are some jobs that we cannot do, which would involve specialist tree felling, or cutting back branches from around a street lamp. This would involve the use of a cherry picker, something we simply don’t have.
The responsibility for any maintenance rests with the landowner, however, we are usually able to react fairly quickly to requests to deal with overgrown shrubbery on public land, particularly if it presents a health and safety risk.
We work closely with other organisations, such as Warrington Borough Council, Your Housing, The Woodland Trust and other local landowners/landlords to enhance the local area.
Contacting Warrington Borough Council (WBC)
Birchwood Town Council Officers have been informed by WBC that all issues relating to queries on their land must now be made directly to the Borough Council by the resident and not via our offices.
This can be done via ‘Contact Warrington’. The ‘My Warrington’ portal makes it easy for the resident to log any concerns without having to wait in a telephone queue. Contact the council | warrington.gov.uk
Once a user account has been set up it can be accessed to obtain updates, log any further concerns or compliments as well as a whole host of other things.

Some residents contact Birchwood Town Council under the misapprehension that we are responsible for land ownership/maintenance issues in the Birchwood area. The Town Council does not own any land other than the land on which its offices are situated. For data protection reasons, any such queries should be directed specifically to the responsible land owner; the Borough Council, Your Housing Group, The Woodland Trust, The Land Trust, etc.
Fallen or Dangerous Tree Reports (WBC)
We have been advised by Warrington Borough Council, that to report immediately dangerous and fallen trees people should call the contact centre on 01925 443322.
Out of hours calls to this number will then be diverted to the out of hours team.
