Park Improvements
Information about park improvements
Locking Stumps Play Area
In 2023 the play area in Locking Stumps underwent a complete facelift. The park area was extended, some new equipment was installed, the older equipment was fully refurbished and some additional seating was added.
There is now a better variety of play equipment for children to enjoy, including an accessible roundabout.
The Town Council worked in partnership with Warrington Borough Council to deliver this scheme which was welcomed by the community and it has been lovely to see children taking advantage of the new play facilities.
Play and recreation facilities at Birchwood Forest Park
The play equipment within Birchwood Forest Park was improved and refurbished in 2015 financed in part by a grant of £50,000 from WREN. The remaining capital required was provided by Birchwood Town Council and Warrington Borough Council (the landowner) and it was formally opened to the public on Sunday, 7th June 2015 during Birchwood Carnival by the then Mayor (Cllr Geoff Settle), Cllr Russ Bowden (Borough and Town Councillor), Mr Richard Smith of WREN and Cllr Terry Hearldon (Chair of Birchwood Town Council).
The first phase of the improvements comprised of areas of vegetation being thinned, which gave those using the park clearer visibility. This was followed by significant improvement, and enhancement of the existing play equipment, and the installation of some new informal fitness equipment.
Since then, the kickabout pitch, the BMX track and the skateboard area have also undergone a transformation providing much needed recreation facilities within the park.
Work to the old kickabout pitch included the installation of new fencing, goals, play surface, and line markings as well as some new lighting, which enables users to make use of the multi use games area in the evening.
These facilities are a much welcomed addition to the park and provide alternative play and recreation facilities for the community.
