The Carnival started with an 80’s inspired fancy dress procession which was led into the main arena by the Chair of the Town Council, Cllr Nigel Reeves accompanied by a stiltwalker and the drum beat of Batida Rio.

Councillor Reeves formally opened the Carnival and then awarded the prizes to the best dressed groups.

The main arena acts were the Paws for Thought Dog Display Team, Batida Rio, a Bhangra Dance Show, local act Northern Starr Dance and Gorse Covert Primary School’s cheerleading team.

On the field there was also a fun dog show, a large fun fair, donkey rides and around 30 charity, craft and commercial stalls.

A number of activities including the Wipeout Challenge, Climbing Wall, Zoo2U, the Rodeo Dinosaur, Punch and Judy and the main arena attraction ‘Paws for Thought’ were provided free of charge thanks to generous donations received from local organisations, including Birchwood Town Council, Warrington Borough Council and its Ranger Service, Friends of Birchwood Forest Park, Birchwood Shopping Centre, Birchwood Park, Gleeds, Sellafield Ltd, Your Housing Group, Nisa (Making a Difference Locally), T F Jones, The Buddha Group and Birchwood Lions.

Other attractions this year included a local history display, circus skills, a magician, drum workshop and an art workshop.

Although the skies were overcast, it was a great day enjoyed by all.

Thanks to the Birchwood Carnival Committee, financial sponsors and volunteers for their time and efforts in making the day a huge success.  We couldn’t do it without you!
