Parish and Town Councils are the first tier of local government. They deliver a range of services at a community level and their role is to represent the local community, provide services to meet local needs and improve quality of life and community well being. The Council was initially formed as part of the existing Croft Parish Council in 1981/82, which became Birchwood and Croft Parish Council in 1986. In April 1994 it became Birchwood Parish Council, and finally became Birchwood Town Council in January 2000.
